wednesdays words: an introduction
On Monday I introduced you to some lovely blog friends, including the ever so lovely Martha Kate. Here's a fun fact--she got married precisely 364 days before I did. We're basically wedding twins.
Well, Martha Kate has a beautiful love for Jesus and had a brilliant idea for a special linkup, one that lands every Wednesday, and on the last Wednesday of the month, everyone participating would have a topic to discuss. Her cohost, Jenni, of Frankly, My Dear, is another wonderful blog friend, and the two of them have created something great with this idea.
This happens to be the first day of the linkup, ever. So, today, our topic is...ourselves. Let's get to know each other, shall we?
I'm Kaitlin, for those of you who are new to Sew My Soul, and I'm married to my high school sweetheart, Drew. Our love story is very special, and you can read about it here.
I became a Christian July 16, 2012 in the midst of the darkest and scariest season of my life. I can quite honestly say that Jesus truly saved my life, in many many ways. The full story will probably never make its way onto the internet, but I'll share little pieces here and there.
Drew and I live in Columbia, SC where it is currently so hot that pants seem like torture devices. This is my first Columbia summer, and I should have known from the city's slogan, Famously Hot, that this winter-lover was really in for it. But, alas, this is where my love needed to live for a while, so I followed him here. I'll follow him just about anywhere. He's just too handsome to let him go alone.
We have a Basset hound that has been mine since my 15th birthday, but still seems like the six week old puppy I brought home that very first day. Her name is Daisy and she frequents my Instagram feed, even has her own hashtag...#thelifeandtimesofdaisy. I spoil her rotten and Drew does too, but he's much more secretive about it. You know, manly man type. Can't let it out that he's a total softy.
Oops. I just let it out. Sorry babe.
Everything I love can't be compressed into a single post. My interests are diverse as can be. As the title of the blog says, I've loved to sew since I was ten, and enjoy making things to wear or keep around the house. I love to read, draw, paint, write, travel, and of course, blog.
Currently, the Lord has been showing me quite a lot about my materialistic nature. I knew I was a bit on the girly side but it never fully occurred to me how much excess I really crave. I'm on a mission these days to simplify my life in so many ways, from my wardrobe to my collections of books and decorations and all the other things that ultimately are just...things. I'm excited/nervous about this journey, and adjusting to a life of less, but I know it will be so much lighter on my heart...and my wallet.
I cannot wait to see where this linkup leads for all the bloggers involved. Next Wednesday I have an extremely special guest post lined up for this. Trust me, you don't want to miss it.
Your turn! What do you love to do? Where does the Lord have you right now?
I love to make art, travel and eat delicious food. Your basset hound is adorable :)
ReplyDeleteAh! I love meeting other artsy people. I work in the arts nonprofit industry! Food...how did I not mention food?? I love cooking and eating it and smelling it. It's amazing. And I'm biased but I'm pretty sure she's the cutest thing to ever be born with fur.
DeleteDaisy is adorable & your love story is too sweet! I love hearing other's testimonies of how awesome of a Savior Jesus really is. How awesome! Also, I can totally relate to what the Lord is revealing to you right now. He has been speaking those same things into my heart lately. Have you read 7 by Jen Hatmaker? Shew, it's a doozy. :) blessings girl! so good to "meet" a new blogging friend through the link up!
ReplyDelete-Katie
I want to read 7 but I'm trying not to buy books right now in the simplification effort....I mayyyy have close to 125 books in my house....maybe...okay I totally do.
DeleteAnd for real, He wrote every detail of that story and it's so insane to me to think about it! So happy you stopped by!!

DeleteSo great to "meet" you! I'll look forward to reading more posts. A call to simplicity is something the Lord has put on my heart as well and it is revealing lots of areas in my life to release to Him. Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
