community brew vol. 1

community brew link up

You may remember our coffee date last month with Madison of Wetherills Say I Do and Rachel of Oh Simple Thoughts. It was such a wonderful linkup, it has now become a monthly one, featuring community, vulnerability, and honesty, and growing in our blog friendships.

And this month's topic is community, on that note. So here is my vulnerability: I don't know that I have a true community here in this city we live in just yet. I have a few friends, but I'm still searching for that place I feel like I fit. And a lot of the time, the most community I really feel...is here, in Blogland, with all of the sweet readers and friends I've made through this outlet.

Today...I really miss real life community. I'm currently sitting on the couch, mouth breathing, face swollen, tissues nearby, because I have a raging sinus infection. And I can't help but think about how nice it would be for someone to bring me Panera mac&cheese for lunch because it's my favorite sick food.

I'm sure someday we will have that again. We're seeking a new church, and looking for friends, and ways to meet people. But right now we don't have strong community yet. And sometimes it doesn't bother me at all, because I like alone time, and I'm great at entertaining myself. But today, I kind of wish we had some closer friendships.

Real life friends, don't read this and panic over my well being. I'm good. But you know I'm an introvert and putting myself out there is difficult for me, and sometimes I would like for it to be less difficult. But really, I'm ok. There's just nothing like a sick day to make you miss your friends and family.

  1. One...I would so bring you Panera Mac and Cheese if we lived closer girlfriend...I hate you are home sick! :(

Two, thanks for being so honest...I know that is not easy! So thanks for opening up your heart for all of us today. I think I can really relate to where you are. It has been a journey from dating to marriage to find "our people" here in our city. A journey that I have to constantly lay down at the feet of the Lord and surrender to his will. Praying he will give you peace in the waiting and courage to pursue community with bravery! Thanks for linking up sweet friend!

    1. One...October needs to hurry because it's about time we were real life friends.

Two. I'm really encouraged by the fact that there are so many people going through a similar stage as us. And that sweet friends like you are so uplifting in the waiting!

  3. I'm so sorry you're sick! If I lived closer I would totally bring you mac n cheese. :) I agree that's hard to find "your place". I'm still trying to find that group of people (besides bloggy friends) that I can completely open up my heart to and share the deepest details of life with. Thankful for you! :)

  4. I feel like you are reading my mind! We are also struggling with making new friends and building community in our city. We have to remind ourselves to trust the process and know that it is all a part of the journey. Time will pass right on by and we will look back at this and it will all make sense. Know that you are not alone!

    1. It's so hard in a new city when you're not in college anymore! It was much simpler making friends back then, wasnt' it?

    1. Seriously! If we invented match.com for post-grad friends I bet we could be rich. Like...super rich.

  6. Aw girl. I pray you feel better soon! I know how terrible and uncomfortable a sinus infection is--ugh! I also pray that God brings you to a solid community of friends very soon. Are you involved in a small group? That helped me form mine!

    1. Thanks girl! We were hosting a small group but have since left that church and we're just trying to figure it out. I'm branching out and working to make friends slowly so I think we'll get there!

  7. i feel like i am in the same spot! i haven't moved to a new city, but a lot of my close friends moved away after college. so i just kinda feel like everyone in my life is new... and it's hard for me to get close to people because i'm an introvert too. but we are involved in a church plant in our city & in a small group through that - and getting plugged in there has really helped!

    1. New is so hard to get used to and we are working on finding a new church so I'm sure that will help! And I'm finding myself feeling less and less shy with each new situation I push myself into, so I'm gaining more confidence in that!
